Goal 3: Good health and well beings for all ages

Important targets of Goal 3 (Targeted by 2030)

SDG goal 3

A. Maternal and Child health (MCH)

  1. Neonatal mortality rate (NMR): reduce by 12/1000 live births
  2. Under 5 mortality rate (U5MR): reduce by 25/1000 live births
  3. Maternal mortality rate (MMR): reduce by 70/100000 live births

Mnemonic:

12 letters in “NEONATE DEATH or NEWBORN DEATH“.

1. NMR reduction target: 12
2. U5MR reduction target: 12 X 2 + 1 = 25 (Children are double of neonate)
3. MMR reduction target: 12 X 6 – 2 = 70 (Mothers are sextuple of neonate)

B. Non-communicable diseases (NCD)

  1. Reduce burden of NCD by 1/3 (~33%).
  2. Reduce death and injuries from road traffic accident (RTA) by 1/2 (50%) – targeted for 2020
  3. Reduce deaths and illness from pollution

C. Drugs, Sex and Money

  1. Drugs: Substance abuse prevention and treatment strengthening
  2. Sex: Sexual and reproductive health accessible universally
  3. Money: Increasing health financing and health workforce retention
